A Highlander in a Pickup is the second book in award-winning author Laura Trentham's romantic comedy Highland Georgia series, full of love, laughs...and highlanders!
When a gorgeous new man—in a kilt—comes to town, life in Highland, Georgia will never be the same…
Iain Connors is the poster boy for the strong and silent type. Growing up a loner at Cairndow Castle in Scotland with only the cliffs and moors for company, it’s understood Iain will assume the mantle of Cairndow groundskeeper when his father is ready to relinquish it. But his stint in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces has opened up a whole new world—and now, rather than settle down, he accepts an invitation to travel to the States to take charge of the Highland Games. After all, he’s led men into battle, how hard can planning a party be?
Anna Maitland is ready to step up for her best friend Isabel Blackmoor, who can’t run the Games in their hometown this year. Surely Anna, a dance instructor with boundless energy, spirit, and charm, is up for the challenge? What she doesn’t anticipate is a man in a kilt who turns up claiming he’s the one in charge. What’s worse about this Iain? He’s so infuriatingly handsome that she can’t help but fantasize about him whispering sweet-nothings in her ear in his rumbly, sexy brogue.
Highlander in a Pickup is the second book in Laura Trentham's Highland, Georgia series. I read the first book A Highlander Walks Into A Bar and really enjoyed it. This book is about the couple in the first book's best friends. Also revolves around the highland festival from the previous book. You definitely DO NOT need to read the first book to get this book, but it does give you some background.

I enjoyed this one, but I do think I like the first one slightly more. I usually like books when the hero and heroine have some hostility that they have to get over, but in this one the push-pull of them kind of annoyed me. I felt like it took FOREVER for them to get together!

Iain is a really duty-bond guy, but he's the type of guy I like - sturdy, dependable, be there for you in a pinch. He's also so wildly unsure about himself and afraid to make the wrong move when it comes to women. I thought he was an interesting pairing with Anna because she is this strong independent woman, but she also had her own insecurities about what she is doing.

There are some steamy parts in this novel, but in terms of other stuff I've read it's kind of tame. Still enjoyable for a book that is more focused on the relationship between these two.

These two do get their HEA even though I was starting to have doubts about it. It did feel a little rushed at the ending. I also will admit I didn't really enjoy the epilogue. It's third person limited in Holt's perspective (a side character in both of these books) and I think it's aiming to set up the next book in the series. I felt like that was really unnecessary to the story.
