Deanna Listens is a monthly feature on the first Monday of every month...err sometimes when I remember to do it, I created to showcase some of my favorite podcasts.

Since May is #WyrdandWonder, I wanted to make my Deanna Listens post about fantasy podcasts. Last year I talked about fantasy podcasts you should be listening to. So this year, I'm pulling out one specifically which is a new addition to those podcasts.

Today, I am featuring The Axe and The Crown. It's a short twelve episode audio drama that is set in the world of Alba Salix, but instead it's about a tavern run by a Troll, his shady niece and his new clueless landlord. It's a really fun deep dive into the mundane problems that occur in a fantasy world. It's also a lot of fun.

If you haven't listened to Alba Salix, don't worry! I think this series can stand on its own, having not listened to the first series. I think there are barely even mentions of what is going on in the Kingdom, so there just might be a few vague references you won't get. Since this story deals more with the working class, everyman, I don't think that will really make you not get into this one. I really like that because it makes both series accessible to new audio listeners.

I like this series too because they are pretty short, although I do wish they were a tiny bit longer! I just think it's good for some people that don't want a complete time suck. This will give you a short, sweet story, that you could realistically listen to in a whole day.

I'm not sure if there is going to be a second season, but I would definitely listen if there is!

Happy Reads Everyone!
