With a famous NHL player for a stepbrother, Violet Hall is well acquainted with the playboy reputation of many a hockey star. So of course she isn't interested in legendary team captain Alex Waters or his pretty, beat-up face and rock-hard six-pack abs. But when Alex inadvertently obliterates Violet's misapprehension regarding the inferior intellect of hockey players, he becomes much more than just a hot body with the face to match. Suffering from a complete lapse in judgment, Violet discovers just how good Alex is with the hockey stick in his pants.

Violet believes her night of orgasmic magic with Alex is just that: one night. But Alex starts to call. And text. And email and send extravagant - and quirky - gifts. Suddenly he's too difficult to ignore and nearly impossible not to like. The problem is, the media portrays Alex as a total player, and Violet doesn't want to be part of the game.
I don't read a lot of adult romances that have a lot of sex scenes, I have talked about this before, but I'm starting to try to open my horizons in the terms of what type of books I read. It's totally okay to read these kinds of books! I was totally one of those people that felt weird about it. Also in the interest of looking for books about hockey, I found Helena Hunting's series. I'm not sure if I'm going to read the other books yet, as this one just didn't really wow me.

I wanted to like this book a little better than I did, and I think part of the problem was I just didn't like Violet all the much. She came off as a little too immature for me, especially in a scene at the end of the book. I felt like she was obsessed about the size of one of Alex's body parts a little TOO much. I wanted to scream "WE GET IT!" Also, there was a lot of really dirty jokes in here that just seemed a little over the top. At first they were fine and I chuckled at some of them, but then it felt like I was getting hit over the head with them.

I did like Alex and Violet's relationship as a whole. When they were together they were great, but when they were fighting, I found them so annoying. I also took a little issue with him just showing up at her place of work when she told him to basically leave her alone. GUYS! Don't do this! I think romcom and romance books set up for men to think we want these big grand gestures, but if a woman tells you to leave her alone, you leave her alone. Other than that, I did enjoy reading about the love between them, and I was happy with their ending.

I felt like there wasn't really much of a plot here. They just have a lot of sex, get in a fight, make up and then it's over. I guess I wanted there to be more in the book, but I think if you are just looking for a fun sexy book that has hockey as a backdrop, then this is a book for you. I'm not sure if I want to read any of the other books in this series though.
