2018 End of The Year Survey


I haven't done this survey from Jaime at Perpetual Page Turner since...um 2014?? I am very lazy, don't judge me. BUT since I had New Year's Eve off, I figured I would attempt to do it again this year. This took me all day to do this, so I hope you enjoy my efforts! Here we go!

1. Best Book You Read In 2018?

What an evil question! I think I'm going to go with The Alchemists of Loom by Elise Kova, mostly because it's one of the most unique fantasy books I have read in a long time. 

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

For sure it is Furyborn by Claire Legrand. I was just bored. 

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read?  

Kill the Farmboy by Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne. I thought for sure it wasn't going to do it for me, but it was awesome!

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did)?

Hmm...I'm going to say Certain Dark Things, because Erica at Erica Robyn Reads told me she got it because of my review!

5. Best series you started in 2018? Best Sequel of 2018? Best Series Ender of 2018?

Best new series I started was The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin. Best sequel was Golden Son (Red Rising #2) by Pierce Brown. I don't have a series ender!

6. Favorite new author you discovered in 2018?

Hm...I'm going to say Roshani Chokshi.

7. Best book from a genre you don’t typically read/was out of your comfort zone?

Definitely The Good Ones by Jenn McKinlay.

8. Most action-packed/thrilling/unputdownable book of the year?

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young!

9. Book You Read In 2018 That You Would Be MOST Likely To Re-Read Next Year?

Um...none? I don't really do re-reads.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2018?

This is a really tough one! Hm...I'm going to go with The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi.


11. Most memorable character of 2018?

Definitely Doctor Aphra. I mean, girl definitely has some flair for the dramatic, and also she is a sarcastic asshole! I love her!



12. Most beautifully written book read in 2018?

This is a tough one for me too, maybe Shadow of The Fox by Julie Kagawa.

13. Most Thought-Provoking/ Life-Changing Book of 2018?

I don't really read a lot of books like this, so I have to go with Belonging by Nora Krug.

14. Book you can’t believe you waited UNTIL 2018 to finally read? 

Definitely Thrawn by Timothy Zahn.

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2018?

Honestly, I don't really keep track of quotes or passages. 

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2018?

According to GoodReads the shortest was An owl, a ghost by Franco and the longest was A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness.

17. Book That Shocked You The Most

Probably A Guide for Murdered Children, because I hated it so much.

I think Cam and Lincoln from Chaotic Good!

Sancia and Key from Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett.

A Potion to Die for by Heather Blake.

Sevro from Red Rising series.

I have to say the Alchemists of Loom again here.

Oh definitely Chaotic Good!

I think you all forget that I am a ROBOT and I don't cry at books.

The Cross Ups series by Sylv Chiang.

Um, obviously They Both Die at The end by Adam Silvera

29. Most Unique Book You Read In 2018?

Probably the Fifth Season.

30. Book That Made You The Most Mad (doesn’t necessarily mean you didn’t like it)?

The Magician King by Lev Grossman. It's just gross, there was an unnecessary rape scene in it. Girl, bye!

Definitely Outer Rim Reviews. She hasn't posted in a while on her blog, but she is super active on instagram and it's where I have connected with her the most.

Why I will unsubscribe to your podcast.

3. Favorite bookish related photo you took in 2018?

Probably my #RRSciFiMonth TBR post.

4. Best bookish event that you participated in (author signings, festivals, virtual events,  etc.)?

Obviously #RRScifiMonth and #WyrdAndWonder

5. Best moment of bookish/blogging life in 2018?

I can't really pin one down for certain, but every time someone comments on my blog is a great feeling for me.

6. Most challenging thing about blogging or your reading life this year?

Having a stressful full time job on top of this.

7. Most Popular Post This Year On Your Blog (whether it be by comments or views)?

if we are counting any of my giveaway posts it was my Wyrd and Wonder post! Not counting giveaway posts it was actually more recent, my ARC Review of The Gilded Wolves.

Hm...I didn't really have any like that this year.

Crown of Feathers ARC. I'm about halfway done it right now.

2. Book You Are Most Anticipating For 2019 (non-debut)?

Queen's Shadow by E.K. Johnson. I can't wait for it.

I don't really have an Debuts on my radar that I know of.

4. Series Ending/A Sequel You Are Most Anticipating in 2019?

Not sure if it's the end, but the next book in the Red Rising series.

DNF books for a change.
