Deanna Plays: Bye Book Blog, Shadow of the Tomb Raider owns my life now!

Deanna Plays is a monthly feature on this blog where every third Thursday of the month I talk about something related to video games. Sometimes these are reviews of the games themselves, sometimes it's a list of books to read if you play X, and anything in between!

Okay, so I literally took off the rest of this week from work because 1.) I have a lot of time and take your days where you can & 2.) The new tomb raider game came out so why not. Unfortunately I've come down with some sort of cold so I basically slept for 11 hours last night, but I plan on doing nothing but playing video games with my days off!

The newest game in the Tomb Raider saga just dropped last week, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and I am loving it. I'm really trying to not use the survival instincts and try to figure out the puzzles myself before looking them up. Some of them are really hard! I usually kind of get them where there is one piece I'm missing. I love how the game is really about your problem solving skills and figuring out how to get from point a to point B. The visuals in the game are stunning, and it's always amazing how games keep on improving each year.

I read a couple reviews that think the story is kind of boring, but I don't necessary agree. I'm only like 22% in so I don't really have an opinion on it yet. I do think that Jonah should get a medal for being the most forgiven friend ever, and Lara is an awful friend. I think Lara is slowly starting to lose it, like her father, when it comes to Trinity. She sets off catastrophic events, just because she doesn't want Trinity to get a certain artifact. I think she is coming apart at the seems, and that to me is truly fascinating.

I don't know if there are going to be any other games after this one, and I don't really want to think about that. Tomb Raider and Lara Croft was there in the beginning of my gaming life, so I feel like I have grown up with her. If this is the last game, it's kind of the end of an era for me. It's really bittersweet.

So...I am currently obsessed with doing nothing but playing this game right now, so if you don't see me posting on the blog a lot or interacting with my fellow bookish people on social media, it's because I'm too busy raiding tombs!
